Computer based modelling and the simulation of complex processes by the means of high performance computing, ranging up to the complete virtualisation, are a key technology for innovative and efficient development strategies.

Process virtualisation in this case means the comprehensive combination and integration of individual models and simulations. This approach allows the examination, the adaptation, the optimisation and the reconfi guration of processes in virtual reality. Thus, it is possible to study and to develop completely new solutions without the need for the construction of test plants for each investigation. Development times can be shortened; the risk and financial efforts are reduced. The superior objective of the Centre for Innovation Competence “Virtual High Temperature Conversion Processes – Virtuhcon” at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is the introduction of this development strategy into the dynamic and economically as well as environmentally explosive field of the primary industry.
